Changes to make in your 40s

Monnow Eyecare | Changes to make in your 40s

As we get a little older, it’s often time to take more care of ourselves and our health. The stress of using computers for longer hour at work and more screen time on our mobiles mean that many of us should visit an optician more often. In our 40’s changes occur to the flexibility the lenses in our eyes, so reading small print requires us to move objects further away from our face to focus properly. If you get eye strain or headaches at your desk or find reading a food label in a supermarket more challenging, it’s probably time for an eye exam.

At Monnow Eyecare, we offer the very latest eye testing techniques, so you can rest assured that your eyesight is in the best professional hands. At the same time, our friendly staff will make you feel welcome, relaxed and can explain your test results without ‘blinding you with science!’

Lots of people feel a little nervous when they come for an eye test, particularly if it’s been a few years since your last one. Over half the people that come to Monnow Eyecare do so because a friend or family member had recommended them. Everyone that competed our survey this year agreed that our staff are very friendly and approachable, so there really is need no need to worry.

When you arrive at the practice, you will be welcomed with a tea or coffee if you’d like one, and we start with a chat about your medical history. At each stage of your eye exam, our staff will explain what the tests are for. The tests check not only your overall vision, but we can detect early warning signs of diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetes. About half of our customers decide to include an OCT test, which provides the optometrist with a very detailed picture of the health of the important blood supply in the layers at the back of your eyes. Other tests may check your peripheral vision, whether you are at risk of developing glaucoma, or you may need some advice to relieve the condition of dry eyes, which is quite common for workers spending a lot of time using screens. If you do need to correct your vision, our experts are on hand to hep you with choosing frames or contact lenses.

Helen Tilley, optometrist at Monnow Eyecare says “our team try very hard to make sure everyone feels relaxed during their eye exam because all that equipment can look a little scary! Making you feel at home here is so important that we check this with patients after their visit. We’re delighted that 99% of the people who responded to our survey said their optician explained the tests and made them feel comfortable. Even it’s been a while since you last had your last eye test, we hope to see you soon”.

To experience the Monnow Eyecare difference for yourself simply make an appointment for your eye test. You can drop into our practice on Cinderhill Street in Monmouth, phone us on 01600 715 299 or book online here.  We look forward to welcoming you.
