Welsh Eyecare Service
Welsh eye Health examination
Since 2002 in Wales it has been possible to have an extended eye health examination free of charge if you are in an “at risk” group. This service is funded by the Welsh Assembly. These groups are:
- Risk of eye disease by reason of race or family history
- Anyone who would find losing their sight in one eye disabling such as the profoundly deaf, Uniocular
Drops are put into your eyes to make the pupil bigger so our optometrists can have a better view of any potential problems with the health of your eyes along with a range of other thorough tests. If you think you are in one of these groups ring our receptionists to book in for your eye health check.
Low Vision Service
Sometimes because of other problems in the eyes correcting with spectacles is not enough. It is rare these days for people to lose their vision completely, but conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration or damage to the eye from disease or injury can result in substantial visual loss. The risk of these problems generally increases with age, and most people with low vision are over 70 years of age.We have an in house Low vision service funded entirely by the Welsh Assembly.
This service includes useful information and advice for people with poor vision and their families, to help them adapt to the change in lifestyle and how to use the many visual aids we have available. If you think a low vision test would be helpful to you, please contact us for an appointment.
Primary eyecare acute referral system
If you have an eye emergency e.g. painful, red, sore eye or sudden loss of vision where do you go? At Monnow Eyecare we keep diary slots available each day to see these types of emergencies and you can usually be seen the same day.
If you live in Wales or have a welsh GP then you are entitled to a Welsh Assembly funded assessment.
Our expert optometrists can assess triage and sometimes treat eye emergencies or refer you to the most appropriate place to get prompt treatment.
Our customers say " I am confident that, should I need specialist care, it will be advised and provided at the earliest opportunity".
